Chinelo Mural in Amatlan, Morelos

Chinelos are characters from Morelos Mexico invented by the indigenous of the region as a way to poke fun at the way European/Moorish Spaniards looked to them.   Each year on Carnival and Easter the villagers dress up as Chinelos and dance in circles reminiscent of the dancing dervish.  This mural is painted completely with spray paint (360 brand/Mexico)

If you are the adventurous type and don’t require more than 2 star amenities, then I highly recommend it.  What you lose in amenities, you gain in nature, adventure, friendship and beauty.  This place has a reputation amongst backpackers and festival travelers throughout central America.  You will frequently find visual artists, musicians, healers and backpackers.  The interactions alone are worth the stay.  It’s called Hostal Mirador Casa Azul.
