Every major work starts with a simple sketch, but translating the spiritual meaning of a classic tarot card onto a 70-foot concrete wall is a journey of faith in itself. In this new piece, I brought The Star from the traditional Ryder Waite deck to life through a Chicano lens.
The Star, card 17 of the Major Arcana, symbolizes hope, renewal, and serenity after a storm. My interpretation features a woman with closed eyes and outstretched arms, pouring jugs of water back into the street—an offering of life and inspiration back to the community that needs it most. This mural is a monument to the quiet strength found in the midst of turmoil.
In the video below, you’ll see the satisfying process of planning, sketching, and painting this massive artwork. You’ll witness the challenge of painting at this scale, the final layers of color, and the shot that finally captures the mural’s true scale. Join me behind the scenes of a street art mural festival.
