La Estrella Mural: The Amazing Piece of Street Art One Battle After Another Missed

The new Paul Thomas Anderson film, One Battle After Another, takes viewers on a cinematic tour through California, hitting locations in Sacramento, Humboldt County, and San Diego. But locally, we can’t help but notice the absence of a beloved landmark: the magnificent La Estrella Mural. This piece of local street art is a shining star in our community, and we created a fan video to give it the spotlight it deserves. The mural, “La Estrella”, is a 75 ft. mural painted on Merchant street in downtown Sacramento. The mural is Sacramento muralist, Chicano artist 2hermano. His colorful murals can be seen all over Sacramento.

The movie was filmed in downtown Sacramento. The production team was planning to include a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio runs past the mural while eluding the police. The production company reached out to negotiate the inclusion of the mural but ultimately, the scene was excluded from the final cut.
